HOW TO KEEP FLOPPY MASTER'S PERFORMANCE HIGH
============================================================================
This file will try to set some guidelines how to use Floppy Master's new
features and still keep the performance up.
- In the config program, set memory buffers size to about 60% of free memory
resources. This should be around optimal in most cases. If you are having
troubles with low memory, reduce buffers size, but program will appear to
be a little slower (quite hard to notice, actually).
- Turn archive browsing and auto file descriptions OFF. Those two are
killers if you are having a lot of compressed files or large file
descriptions. You may turn them on in the main program if you wish so, but
I strongly recommend you only use them when you really need them. Large
databases will make program run slower and slower.
- Turn the file index creation ON in the config program, if you are often
browsing disks and program responses slower and slower as database grows.
Index creation will take an extra second when selecting option in the main
menu, but disk browsing will be faster.
- If possible, try to break large databases in more smaller databases. Don't
put all disks in one large database, since it is much more time consuming
to work with it.
- ...and, last but not least, keep the turbo button on, will you... :)
